Royal intruder is freed after palace scare

A ROYAL intruder who scaled the front gates of Buckingham Palace as the Queen slept was released by police yesterday.

The 22-year-old man was held in the early hours of Wednesday after he was spotted by officers monitoring CCTV cameras.

Police and Palace chiefs conducted a review of security as a matter of routine. But insiders said the set-up worked well.

A source said: “Officers were on the spot quickly and this suspect did not pose any kind of threat to the Queen or anyone else in the palace.”

Scotland Yard said the man was released under investigation.
