Anger as baby abuser George to leave prison
PAEDOPHILE Vanessa George will leave prison after parole board officials found she no longer poses a “significant risk” to children.
George, 49, abused 64 babies and toddlers at Little Ted’s nursery in her native Plymouth, Devon, and then sent snaps to fellow perverts.
She got a minimum seven years in 2009 for offences that a judge said “plumbed new depths of depravity”.
George was refused parole in May 2017 after serving the minimum sentence. But yesterday the Parole Board said she should be released.
A family friend of one of the victims said: “This is a slap in the face, you abuse kids for kicks and you walk free.
“The victim’s families are being forced to go through it again. She should rot in jail.”
The decision to release George was also criticised by Luke Pollard, Labour MP for Plymouth, Sutton and Devonport. He thinks she should never be forgiven for what she did.
He said: “George’s crimes against children cannot be forgotten and it’s very hard to forgive her for them. I know I can’t and that’s why her release from jail is a kick in the teeth for all her victims.
“I am concerned about the safety of our city’s children and have written to the Justice Secretary asking for the decision to be reviewed.”
Harry Fletcher, director of the Victims’ Rights Campaign, said: “She was clearly a major danger to children. It is no wonder that the victims are horrified at the prospect of release.”
A decision summary stated: “After considering the circumstances of her offending, the progress made while in custody and the evidence presented at the hearing, the panel was satisfied that Ms George was suitable for release.”
A spokeswoman said: “Parole Board decisions are solely focused on whether a prisoner would represent a significant risk after release. Public safety is the number one priority.”
It is not known when she will be freed from HMP Send, near Guildford, Surrey.
George sent pictures of her abuse to paedophile Colin Blanchard, from Rochdale, Gtr Manchester.
He was jailed for nine years in 2011.
