Irish passport applications double in 3yrs
FEARS over the impact of Brexit have sparked an almost doubling of Irish passport applications from Northern Ireland.
Figures reveal one-fifth of residents here have applied in the past three years.
The numbers have surged to 290,346 since the UK voted for Brexit on June 23, 2016.
Under the Good Friday Agreement, people born in Northern Ireland can choose to be British or Irish citizens or both.
Before the Brexit vote, tens of thousands of applications were received from Northern Ireland every year. Now the figure is around 100,000.
In the three years before the Brexit vote the total was 161,428.
