My baby stopped growing & I could have walked in front of a car.. only for these nurses

Mum is raising funds for ward that delivered ‘sleeping son’

A WOMAN who gave birth to her “sleeping son” this week has started a fundraising campaign for the “amazing nurses” that helped her.

Naomi Barnes, from the Shankill Road, West Belfast, gave birth to 15-week-old Corey-tyler on Monday at 9.24am.

But what should have been one of the happiest days of her life was shattered by the loss of her infant son.

The 24-year-old was looking forward to being a mum again and after two normal pregnancies she wasn’t prepared for the devastating news she received at a check-up last Friday July 5, when doctors said her baby had stopped growing.

Naomi told the Mirror: “I found out I was pregnant at seven weeks and I was so happy, I went for an early pregnancy scan and everything was great.

“On Friday I went for a 16-week scan and they told me there was no heartbeat. I didn’t know what to do, think or feel. All I could do was cry”

Naomi said her first two pregnancies with Marcus, three, and one-year-old Amber were “text-book” but she felt something was wrong with Corey-tyler.

LABOUR

She added: “I was told that Corey-tyler had stopped growing at 15 weeks and I would have to deliver him.

“At that point I could have walked in front of a car and not cared.

“They brought me into the Royal on the 7 July and I was given four tablets to bring on the labour.

“The nurses were amazing and I honestly can’t thank them enough. They are part of the reason why I am fundraising for the neonatal ward. “When you have to deliver a ‘sleeping baby’ as they call it, you are brought into the Snowdrop Room where they have a coffee machine and a TV and stuff just to make you as comfortable as possible. “So I just want to be able to contribute to them being able to refill the coffee pods and things.

“I will also be giving some of the money to the Simba charity. They gave me the most gorgeous memory box of Corey-tyler, with wee mittens and things, it brought me a lot of comfort and it is something I will be able to cherish forever.

“I want to make sure they will can continue to give that comfort to other families.” If you would like to donate visit www.gofundme.com/f/ kgcc6-coreytyler-fund.
