Death crash parents to sue Foreign Office
Harry immunity ‘was unlawful’
THE parents of Harry Dunn are planning to sue the Foreign Office over its handling of their son’s death.
Harry, 19, died after American Anne Sacoolas allegedly ploughed into his motorbike while driving on the wrong side of the road near a US spy base.
Mrs Sacoolas left the UK citing diplomatic immunity because of her husband’s job.
Harry’s parents claim the Foreign Office acted unlawfully when it told Northamptonshire Police she had immunity.
They have also referred the to the Independent Office for Police Conduct over “the manner in which the investigation was conducted”.
Charlotte Charles and Tim Dunn have hired human rights barrister Geoffrey Robertson to seek a judicial review.
British police are to travel to the US to interview Mrs Sacoolas under caution.
Harry’s parents visited America last week to meet President Trump but were disappointed after being told
Mrs Sacoolas would not be returning.
They also refused to meet her at the White House, insisting any such meeting should happen here.
Harry died on August 27 outside the Croughton base in Northants, about two miles from his home in Charlton.
Tim and Charlotte’s spokesforce man, Radd Seiger, said: “The family have a steely determination to ensure that Harry did not die in vain. The whole nation, the whole world now, is looking at this set of circumstances and it isn’t right. “You can not go to another country and end up taking the life of a resident there and then just skip the country. We all know that.”
