BAN BLOW FOR ’BOY

Brilliant Kem’s season on hold as owners face investigation

- BY RYAN MCELLIGOTT

IN a shock development top chaser Kemboy could be prevented from running for the foreseeable future after a ban was placed on horses registered in the ownership of the Supreme Horse Racing Club.

The hugely successful syndicate has enjoyed many great days over the last few seasons and the outfit’s colours were carried to a number of high profile wins last season.

As well as Kemboy’s heroics, the owners struck Grade 1 gold with Aramon while Cadmium won the Topham Chase at Aintree in

April.

It was reported yesterday that the Supreme Horse

Racing Club, which has become one of the most prolific outfits in Irish racing, is facing allegations of financial impropriety from members.

In a statement released yesterday Horse Racing Ireland owner relations manager Aidan Mcgarry said: “Horse Racing Ireland has engaged with Supreme Horse Racing Club to seek information to resolve a number of queries and concerns.

“Following an unsatisfactory response from Supreme Horse Racing Club, Horse Racing Ireland, under Horse Racing Ireland Directive 15, has suspended Supreme Horse Racing Club’s ownership accounts from all activity, including the running of horses from Monday, October 21.

“At all times Supreme Horse Racing Club was aware that the penalty for the non-delivery of the information requested by Horse Racing Ireland would be that a hold would be put on all entries and declarations for horses registered by Supreme Horse Racing Club,” he concluded.

O’brien (inset) will saddle five of the six runners in the Group 1 Vertem Futurity Trophy Stakes at Doncaster on Saturday.

The last Group 1 of the year in England or Ireland has attracted a disappointing domestic turnout with Andrew Balding’s Kameko the only one to take on Ballydoyle.

The pick of the O’brien challenge looks to be the odds on favourite Mogul who is the mount of Donnacha O’brien.

Japan’s younger brother has won two of his three starts and comes here looking to build on a Group 2 success at Leopardstown last month.

TODAY’S domestic action comes from Dundalk where an eight race card offers Donnacha O’brien and Colin Keane a chance to continue their title battle.

O’brien is fancied to land the nursery on War Leader who should relish switching to the polytrack and Thames River could give him a double in the median auction maiden even though he has a bad draw to overcome.
