Amelia sis in plea
THE family of a young British backpacker missing in Cambodia arrived to join the search for her yesterday.
Amelia Bambridge, 21, went missing after a beach party and failed to return to her hostel on the paradise island of Koh Rong. Her purple rucksack containing her phone and bank cards was found on rocks close to the shore after she disappeared.
Yesterday a massive search combing the shoreline and jungle involving police, scuba divers, drone operators and volunteers was under way.
Ryan Harris, 18, who travelled with her, said: “It’s a whole island thing now. Everyone’s looking.”
Amelia, from Worthing, West Sussex, disappeared after the party on Police Beach in the early hours of Thursday morning.
Footage taken of student Amelia on the night she went missing, has been released.
Her sister, Georgie, said: “She’s my best friend. We are like twins. I’m just in shock, she has never done anything like this before.”
Missing Amelia’s worried mum Linda Schultes, 52, and brother Harry arrived on the island yesterday.
Linda was contacted by the manager of the Nest Beach Club hostel after Amelia failed to check out of the hostel.
The former Brighton, Hove & Sussex Sixth Form student has been declared officially missing by local authorities.
It is understood there are no lights on the path from Police Beach to the Nest Beach Club, which is 40 minutes away through thick forest.
Amelia had spent two years planning her trip while working at Lloyds bank. Her sisters said she was “meticulously organised”.
A Foreign Office spokesman said: “We are assisting the family of a British woman who has been reported missing in Cambodia and are in close contact with the Cambodian police.”
