RAMS WAIT ON ROO TO SAVE THEIR SEASON

-

PHILLIP COCU has revealed the strict 10-week training regime designed to help Wayne Rooney resurrect Derby’s season.

The former England captain is due to meet up with boss Cocu this week to thrash out a plan that will have the 34-year-old in tip-top shape when his stint as playercoach officially starts in January.

Dutchman Cocu is under mounting pressure after the

Rams stretched their two-month winless streak on the road to leave them just six points off the relegation zone.

The arrival of Rooney on a £100,000-a-week, 18-month deal, at the end of a two-year spell with MLS side DC United, is set to provide a much-needed boost to Derby’s flagging play-off hopes.

Under-fire Cocu said: “Wayne will be passing by and we will sit down and make a plan for him – when he is coming in for training and when he can have one more break after his season in the USA.

“It’s different the way we train and the intensity of games, so we have to make sure he can make the steps to be fit for the level we need him at.

“He’ll need a ‘pre-season’ and also, when he’s not with us, he’ll need to know what to do, so we’ll get the information from DC about how he trained and what the data was there.”

Hull moved to within striking distance of the play-off places as a clinical late double from ninegoal top-scorer Jarrod Bowen (above) sealed back-to-back wins.

Skipper Eric Lichaj said: “There’s a lot of doubters out there about our squad, but we can prove them wrong. We’re closer to the top six, and our aim is to get in there, and to keep on climbing.”
