Our £1million wedding anniversary gift

Couple celebrate a very Lucky Dip

- BY ADAM ASPINALL

TWO NHS workers were able to celebrate their first wedding anniversary in style thanks to a £1million Lucky Dip lottery win.

And Martin Brandist, 54, and wife Debbie, 48, now plan to buy a holiday home in Lanzarote and to bring in the New Year at Disneyland Paris with their three children, aged 23, 19 and 14.

Martin, who says they “danced around the bedroom” after winning last month, has quit his NHS job as a materials management officer.

Their good luck began when they got two numbers on the Saturday draw on September 14, which earned them a free Lucky Dip for the Wednesday.

Martin checked the ticket the next day over breakfast in their home in Nuneaton, Warks.

He said: “I first thought I’d matched three numbers and won £30. Then I noticed I had a fourth number.

“I thought I’d scan the ticket to see how much you get for four numbers.

“That’s when the phone pinged and a message popped up congratulating me on winning a million pounds.”

He dashed to the bedroom to get Debbie to double check and scan the ticket on her phone. Martin said: “It came up with the same message. I was just standing there in shock. Debbie was jigging about all over the place.

“I actually gave up my job on the Thursday afternoon. It will make such a difference to us and our families.”

A keen angler, he has bought a VW T-roc to transport his fishing gear to all the competitions he can now enter.

On their anniversary on Sunday the couple treated their family to a meal at a local hotel.

Debbie will stay in her job as an NHS finance manager. She said: “I would be bored at home.”

Martin plans a house-hunting trip in Spain. He said “We always dreamed of having a little place in Lanzarote. Now

we can live our dream.”
