2 YEARS ON.. SEARCH FOR OLLIE IN ISRAEL GOES ON
Ulster tourist’s family hopeful over CCTV footage of man at army base
TWO years on from the mystery disappearance of a Northern Ireland tourist in Israel his family are hopeful for a breakthrough as new items in the case are examined.
CCTV footage of a man near an army base around the time Ollie Mcafee vanished is believed to be of the gardener from Dromore, Co Down.
Those close to him believe the clips are the “last known sighting” of the 29-year-old.
During a search a few weeks ago, “some items” were found and have been removed for investigation.
Although they still have more questions than answers, family and friends have not given up on finding Mr Mcafee.
They said they were told “their main new finding – using technology that was not available to the search teams – is that they were able to confirm it was indeed Oliver who was outside an army base on the night of 22/11/2017”.
Mr Mcafee was due to get on a flight home following a biking trip to the Middle East before Christmas two years ago but never boarded.
Despite various appeals and searches in the country, his disappearance remains a mystery.
An update on the Missing: Oliver Mcafee in Israel
Facebook page last Thursday read: “I was sent some images of an individual and, although the images were taken from a distance, we were in agreement it was the closest resemblance seen yet.
“But unfortunately [it was not him]. We were updated a few weeks later.
“Around the time of Oliver’s disappearance, an individual was noticed on CCTV nearby an army base.
“We have been informed they are now fairly certain this was indeed Oliver.
“In addition, another search was carried out a few weeks ago. I have been informed some items were found and have been taken for examination.
“This doesn’t answer questions about what happened or where he is – in fact, it raises more.
“But we will continue to hope answers will come.”
