ANCELOTTI: IT TOOK SIX MONTHS FOR PLATINI TO SETTLE WITH JUVE.. KEAN JUST NEEDS TIME AND HAS GREAT FUTURE

- BY GIDEON BROOKS

CARLO ANCELOTTI is ready to put an arm around teenage striker Moise Kean, saying he still has a big future at Everton.

Kean (right) has struggled to adapt to the Premier League since signing from Juventus in the summer, failing to find the net in 16 appearances.

Disciplined in November for a breach of club rules, the youngster also suffered the ignominy of being a substituted substitute at Old Trafford earlier this month.

Yet ahead of Ancelotti’s first game in charge against Burnley at Goodison today, the new Toffees boss insisted he will be given time to settle in England.

“Moise Kean did very well last year and we tried to buy him at Napoli, but Everton arrived first,” said Ancelotti (left).

“He is a top talent, but he is 19 years old and he has to adapt. He arrived here in a new country, new teammates, everything was new here for him. “I had the same problem with Hirving Lozano at Napoli, who is not 19 years old, but 23, 24.

“It takes time. When I was a player I remember Michel Platini arrived from St-etienne to Juventus, it took six months – and that was Platini.”

Ancelotti admitted he has had little time to change things before welcoming Sean Dyche’s side.

But he insisted he was happy with what Everton have shown in a run of three unbeaten league games under caretaker boss Duncan Ferguson.

“I don’t want to change a lot. In three days it is difficult to change,” added the Italian.

“We have to start from the fact the team showed a good spirit and we have to use this to try and win.

“The game against Burnley is very important. You cannot do a lot, but I want to put some ideas of football I’d like to play in these first training sessions we are going to have.”
