HARTSON: MOYES SHOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN MAN UTD BOSS.. HE’S A LUCKY MAN

- BY GARY CHAPPELL

FORMER West Ham striker John Hartson argues David Moyes has NEVER won anything, should NEVER have been appointed Manchester United manager... and is a very lucky man.

Moyes was handed an 18-month contract by the Hammers on Sunday night to replace Manuel Pellegrini, who was sacked following Saturday’s 2-1 home defeat by Leicester.

Hartson, who scored 24 goals in 60 Premier

League games for the club, slammed Pellegrini as a “shambles” – but he believes the appointment of Moyes for a second spell could be a huge error.

Hartson, 44, said: “David

Moyes has been very lucky. Yes, he did OK when he went to West Ham with Stuart Pearce before he was relieved of his duties. But for me he has been very fortunate.

“This is a massive job and yes, he has experience.

“But he should never have been Manchester United manager (below). He was hand-picked by Sir Alex Ferguson and it wasn’t even discussed at board level.

“So he went into West Ham and he was sacked after however many months, went over to Spain, didn’t do very well, took Sunderland down. “So for me he is a lucky man and West Ham could have gone elsewhere.”

Moyes said in yesterday’s press conference, “That’s what I do, I win. I’ve always won” – and that brought a mocking response on Twitter from Hartson, who shot back: “Urm, what exactly is it you’ve won, David?”

The Welshman added: “Some fans will be happy to get rid of Pellegrini, who was an absolute shambles, spent an awful lot of money
