Barca ace predicts club are ‘screwed’ unless Champions League ban is lifted

“It is surprising because nobody thought such a thing could happen, so powerful,” said Messi.

“If in the end, City are not competing in the Champions League, it will be weird considerin­g the players, the club and the money it spends.

“There are so many players who may look for an exit or perhaps not. The Champions League is very attractive, so two years without playing... screwed.”

The Argentinia­n played under Guardiola during his four years in charge at the Nou Camp and he joked Barca could exploit the turmoil at City if top stars depart.

Asked if Aguero should link up with his countryman, he said: “Sign them all!”

Guardiola this week hit back at his former club after Barca chief executive Josep Maria Bartomeu hailed the tough action taken by UEFA.

“We’re going to appeal and maybe it happens, but don’t talk too loud, Barcelona,” said Guardiola following Wednesday’s 2-0 win over West Ham.

“That is my advice because everybody is involved sometimes in situations. We are going to it is appeal and hopefully in the future we can play in the Champions League against Barcelona.”

In an interview with Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo, Messi also reiterated his desire to stay at the Nou Camp despite a recent spat with the Barca hierarchy.

“Why would I leave?” he said. “When I said I love this club, I like to be here so why would I leave?

“No matter what happens, I’ll be here next season.”
