Once more unto the Breeze

After two years of fantastic events Breezeblock announces it’s final series of gigs

-

After almost two years and 24 top class events, the Breezeblock series of parties announced its sunset this week.

“After much soul searching, I’ve decided these will be my last events,” said the man behind the shows, local DJ and promoter Matt Burns.

Matt was, of course, an instrumental one third of Twitch before branching out into his own series of underground house and techno shows.

Breezeblock launched with a bang back in August 2018 with Modeselektor and Anastasia Kristensen playing the curtain closer in the old QUB Student Union.

What followed was a headliner who’s who of the very best in house and techno – Octo Octa, Blawan, Overmono, Peach, Midland, Hunee, and numerous others all making the trip to Belfast, and quite a few for the very first time.

“Promoting has been a massive part of my life for the last 10 years and has given me countless happy memories and friendships that will last long beyond the dancefloor.

“Big Thanks to Paddy & Phil for everything we did at Twitch and to everyone who has worked with me and helped me with events over all this time. It has been a blast.”

Matt announced the final three Breezeblock shows this week and, boy, are they all mouthwatering.

Ross From Friends is first up, alongside Mount Palomar and Matt himself, who will play the Palm

House next Saturday evening, February 29.

This is followed by an all-too-rare local set from a rejuvenated and scintillating Space Dimension Controller who will be joined by selector extraordinaire Bobby Analog. This show takes place in the Ulster Sports Club on Paddy’s Day Eve, Monday March 16, in the Ulster Sports Club.

And finally, talk about bowing out on a high – the man, the myth, the living legend that is Theo Parrish jets in to complete Breezeblock on

Easter Monday in the Ulster Sports Club.

“I’m incredibly excited to present these final three shows,” Matt told us this week.

“They are all phenomenal artists and each of the bookings are incredibly personal to me.

“Ross From Friends was easily one of my most favourite Breezeblock gigs, a packed out Empire losing their shit to 2018’s best album.

“Jack (Space Dimension Controller) I have known for many years and it’s a real jewel in the crown to have NI’S most talented electronic musicians play one of my final gigs.

“And as for Theo, well, he has been the biggest musical influence on my life, bar none. I’ve been trying to book him for many years but for one reason or another, it’s just never worked out. Playing the final Breezeblock seems as fitting as it could ever be!”

Farewell, Breezeblock, you’ve been wonderful.
