NUNO: MY MEN MUST NOT REST

- BY TIM NASH

WOLVES 3 NORWICH 0

NUNO ESPIRITO SANTO has revealed the secret of Wolves’ stamina – no days off.

Diogo Jota (above) scored twice against Norwich as Wanderers came through their 44th game of the season in all competitions in a campaign that started back on July 25.

And asked how they continue to play with so much energy

despite their gruelling schedule, Nuno said it was down working their socks off every single day. “The way they recover, the way they respect themselves, the way the staff is dedicated – we don’t have days off,” he said.

“We are always preparing ourselves to compete. This is how we want to compete, and the difficulty is to sustain it, so it requires a lot of hard work, and every day is harder. But it’s our job.

“We embrace the challenge, so everybody has to help, everyone.”

His brace to sink

Norwich took his tally to five goals in four days after his second successive

Europa League hat-trick, against

Espanyol on

Thursday. Jota has scored 14 goals this season in all competitions, but remarkably, the 23-year-old has only netted in three Premier League games. “I’m delighted with his goals,” said Nuno. “His touch has been clinical, and hopefully it continues.”

Wolves have also now kept four consecutive clean sheets for the first time since October 2018.

“We were organised, we managed the game well,” added Nuno. “It was good. “We blocked Norwich, they didn’t create too many chances, and we were clinical. Even in the first half, when Norwich played well, we got in a lot of blocks that allowed us to recover the ball, and go past them.

“Of course, I was very happy with three goals, more possession, staying in shape, and not conceding. “Everything starts there, with the clean sheet, so let’s keep on going.”
