CO MEATH YESTERDAY

THE daughter of John Delaney’s former partner was killed in a horrific road crash yesterday.

Amy English, 21, and 23-yearold Conor Mccolgan both lost their lives when their car collided with a truck in Co Meath at around 1.10pm.

Tributes were paid last night to the “bubbly and outgoing” young woman whose mum Emma was engaged to the ousted EX-FAI boss.

Principal Bridget Bennett said Dunshaughlin Community College was “deeply saddened” by the loss of the former pupil.

She added: “Our thoughts and prayers are with her family at this tragic time.

“She was an avid basketball player, very bubbly, very caring.

“I know that any staff who were involved in teaching Amy will be deeply saddened, as I was, by this terrible news. It’s a tragic loss to us all and a fine young lady has been taken from us.”

Irish police, ambulance services and the fire brigade attended the scene at Dunmoe on the N51 Navan to Slane road minutes after the collision.

Officers were last night trying to ascertain what led to the crash.

Mr Mccolgan, who is believed to have been from Northern Ireland, was driving the car while Amy was a front-seat passenger.

Both of their bodies were removed from the scene and taken to Our Lady’s Hospital, Navan, where a post-mortem will take place this morning.

The car had been travelling from Slane when the crash took place.

The male driver of the lorry was uninjured and arrested at the scene.

He was taken to Navan Garda Station where he was later released.

Forensic Collision Investigators were at the scene last night and the road remained closed. Amy also attended Loreto Secondary School in Navan up to Junior Cert and it is understood staff were also deeply shocked by her death.

She had lived in the area with her family while at school before working in retail in recent years.

Fine Gael councillor Gerry O’connor expressed his condolences to Amy’s loved ones.

He said: “When someone is taken so young with their whole life in front of them it’s such a tragedy.

“All of our thoughts and prayers and with their family and friends.

“It’s a terrible situation for any parent to deal with losing a child so young.”

Gardai have appealed for witnesses or anyone with details about the collision to come forward.

Officers also urged any road users who may have dash-cam footage to contact them.
