Energy firm and £15,000 gifts to Tory

- BY MIKEY SMITH

A TORY MP who asked a Commons question about an energy firm was a guest of the donors behind it at a lavish fundraising dinner.

David Morris urged Energy Minister Kwasi Kwarteng to lobby energy watchdog Ofgem to change regulations that could benefit Aquind – after he was handed £10,000 in September. Mr Kwarteng agreed to do so.

Mr Morris then accepted a further £5,000 donation from Aquind in December.

He said he had not broken rules as he drew attention to it in the register of interests.

There is no suggestion of wrongdoing by Aquind Ltd or its directors.

A spokesman for the company said: “Aquind has complied with all legal and regulatory obligations.”
