FK Riteriai v Derry City Tonight 5pm

DECLAN DEVINE wants his Candystripes to leave nothing behind in Vilnius.

Derry City flew to Lithuania yesterday morning on a charter and must travel in a bubble for their Europa League tie against FK Riteriai.

The tie had been hanging in the balance but it’s game on and Devine is calling for a massive performance in the one-leg showdown.

“There was some doubt but in my brain the game has always been on and it was the same for the players,” he said.

“Ideally we’d have liked the game to be on Thursday but it is what it is. It’s a European tie and we have 90 minutes at least to get into the next round. That’s a challenge you have to embrace and we fully intend to do that. A lot of our players are in

Europe for the first time so that shows you the opportunities you can get from playing football in Ireland.”

Centre-back Ally Gilchrist is Derry’s only absentee and Devine continued: “We’ve told the guys that we don’t want to be in Europe for just one match.

“We’ll have to be at our very best but I’d back these players to do it. We’ve watched all of Riteriai’s games this season and they have some good players.

“They have three or four internationals and their centre-forward has played in Poland and is a top player.

“It’s going to be tough but we’re setting up to be positive and we want to win the game. It’ll be a different style but it’s still 11 versus 11 and we’re going to embrace it.”
