EASYJET and Jet2.com are cranking up flights to the Canary Islands after the Government announcement they have been added to the list of quarantine exempt destinations for UK travellers.

easyjet added more than 180,000 additional seats until the end of March with many departing from Belfast International.

It is also launching a service from Belfast to Tenerife with the first flights leaving on November 7.

Spokesman Ali Gayward said: “We’ve already seen a surge of demand for flights and holidays to the Canary Islands – we’ve seen a 500% increase day on day on searches – so we know that there is customer demand.

“This will mean many of our SIZZLING customers will be able to take a winter sun break to these popular islands or reschedule a holiday that they’ve been unable to take this summer as a result of the last minute changes to quarantine restrictions.

Jet2.com will relaunch its Tenerife service from Belfast International from October 31 as well as Gran Canaria, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura from November 1.

Spokesman Steve Heap said: “The Canary Islands are hugely important, both for us as a business and for our customers as a much-loved holiday favourite.”
