ROOFERAISER IS STILL GERS BENCH PRESS

- Ibrox,tomorrow,3pm BY MICHAEL GANNON

KEMAR ROOFE’S wonder goal has clocked up three millions internet hits all over the globe – but Steven Gerrard has revealed the sensational strike is unlikely to secure the front man a starting place.

The Rangers super sub has seen his outrageous 55 yard effort in Thurday’s Europa League win against Standard Liege in Belgium become a worldwide sensation after going viral.

Roofe is on the comeback trail after a month out injured and the manager will resist the temptation to lob him straight in against Livingston at

Ibrox tomorrow. Gerrard said: “We need to get Kemar up to speed. I don’t think we’ve yet had him at 100 per cent.

“He got really close before his latest injury but then he missed a month, which was frustrating for everyone. We’ve seen flashes of his ability.

“I think everyone is just expecting me to plunge him into every single game because of the goal the other night. That won’t be the case.

“We’ll treat him with care and get him up to speed at the right time.

“When he’s ready he will come back into the team.”

Gobsmacked Gerrard declared after the impressive Roofe’s goal as the best he’d seen in the flesh – and he hadn’t changed his mind 24 hours later after dozens of viewings.

The Liverpool legend reckons the striker pulled off a moment of quality that is reserved for the best players on the planet.

Gerrard said: “It was a world-class moment, a moment of genius. I have seen the goal many, many times in terms of execution, I have seen [Luis] Suarez do it, [Wayne] Rooney do it, Xabi Alonso do it a couple of times.

“There have been many more throughout the leagues around the world, but if you go back from the strike and the execution, it is where he has collected the ball.

“He holds two really strong challenges off, then he goes past a third defender and then to have the vision and audacity to then execute it, for me it is probably the best that I have seen live.

“I am trying to think of a better goal and I can’t think of one.”

We need to get Kemar up to speed. He has missed a month and needs time...
