SOCCER STAR STOKES’ JAIL THREAT OVER COURT REPORT

Former Ireland striker gets warning after missing meetings

- MIRROR REPORTER INTERVIEW Anthony Stokes irish@mgn.co.uk

FORMER Ireland star Anthony Stokes has been warned he could be jailed if he does not complete an official court report.

The ex-celtic striker, 32, had been due to speak to social workers but failed to meet appointments.

D ublin er Sto kes, w h o lives in Glasgow, was set to be interviewed after a sheriff ordered him to be of good behaviour for eight months.

He had also been given a non-harassment order keeping him away from ex-girlfriend Eilidh Scott for four years. His bail conditions ban him from contacting Eilidh or her parents.

He is also banned from two streets in Shotts, Lanarkshire, where they live. But his lawyer told Hamilton Sheriff Court yesterday that problems with the social work department meant paperwork was not available.

Michael Gallen, defending, said: “The social worker arranged to speak to Mr Stokes but he was in Ireland at the time and I sent him a message to contact them. He then attended at my office earlier this week concerned that the report had not been prepared.

“We contacted the social work again to try to arrange for a telephone interview to take place but that has not happened.” Sheriff Alasdair Macfadyen said: “I will adjourn the case and, given there has been a divergence in what is said by the social workers and what is said by you as to why this report is not available, it is appropriate that I put you on bail.

“If the report is not available on the next occasion then y ou b ein g remand ed in custody is a ver y distinct possibility.”
