Inside men a joy to watch

-

ISN’T it great to see there’s still a place for the small, wiry skilful corner forward in the game.

I’ve always said every team needs a good inside forward.

I was like a kid in a sweet shop last weekend watching new kids on the block Tony Brosnan, Darragh Canavan and the magnificent Tommy Conroy.

They scored 2-10 between them. The Conroy and Canavan goals were very special pieces of individual skill. Conroy’s movement is on a different level.

And not forgetting Jordan Morris’ incredible cameo with seven points off the bench. The skill he displayed with the ball is a massive boost to Meath – his levelling score in Clones was as good a point as you’ll see this year

The class of these young guns will light up a damp winter. Watching them has helped restored my faith in forward play.

Add in Conor Mckenna, David Clifford, Con O’callaghan, Shane Walsh and more, and the attacking talent this year is extra exciting.

Morris’ score was as good a point as you’ll see this year..

A Bugbearf05sansboldofmine since the resumption is how many referees have lost control of where free-kicks are being taken from.

It happened on over 20 occasions in the games I watched last weekend – the most ridiculous sight of all is watching players running in to make the angle better to shoot from.

By the time they kick the ball they are miles away from where the foul was committed.

Referees seem oblivious to it all and the players know this.

It’s having a big bearing in games – and needs addressing before the Championship.
