WILDER BREWS A SURVIVAL PLAN

- BY SIMON BIRD

CHRIS WILDER is banking on Rhian Brewster to fire Sheffield United out of relegation trouble.

Only two sides have had a worse start after six games of a Premier League campaign than the Blades.

Three years ago, Crystal Palace failed to get a point, as did Portsmouth in 2009.

Seven out of the 11 teams who have only earned a point at this stage have been relegated – but Blades boss Wilder der says Brewster is ready dy to box clever to get them motoring.

United’s goals record – a joint league low with three – is their biggest problem, with ruthlessness needed when a rare chance comes along. g.

Brewster, 20, made de his first start last weekend against his s old club Liverpool (right) t) and today Manchester City are in the striker’s sights. Explaining the signing, which could add up to £23million, Wilder said: “Does Rhian give us what we missed here last year? Yes, he is a goalscorer and a box player.

“We didn’t have an extensive list of targets for that position – there was price, contract situations, everything comes into it. He suits our play, he’s a young player who can improve and grow with us.

“You ask if they have attitude and cha character and he does.

“Does he suit your system? When I first met him it was a case of 100 per cent he had all the stuff I had heard about him.

“He wanted to come here. He wanted Premier League games and to improve his standing.

“Looking around and looking at his body language, he doesn’t feel he’s made a poor decision. He feels he’s found a home. We are a very all inclusive and tight-knit group.”

The Blades’ Norway midfielder Sander Berge says he is in the best form of his life and ready to compete with a superstar in the shape of City’s Kevin De Bruyne.

He said: “They probably have the best player in the world, in my opinion, De Bruyne, a player I look up to a lot. No matter what type of game he can be a game-changer.

“He accelerates the game, makes some unbelievable passes, takes off pressure, eliminates people.

“They’re a strong team, so good in possession. As a team they never really give the ball away and they decide, mostly, the game’s tempo.

“We showed at Anfield we can compete against the best. We must be confident.”
