-

Moenchengladbach are top of the group as Alassane Plea scored a hat-trick as they won 6-0 at Shakhtar Donetsk.

Borussia scored four in the first half, with two coming from 27-year-old striker Plea (below). The

Frenchman broke the deadlock with a crisp finish in the eighth minute and Borussia doubled their lead with an own goal as Valeriy Bondar deflected in Christoph Kramer’s shot.

Plea put the game beyond the hosts with a third from 25 yards before Ramy Bensebaini added a fourth. Lars Stindl made it 5-0 before Plea beat the offside trap to complete his hat-trick.

In Group A, Lokomotiv Moscow keeper Guilherme produced a series of fine saves as they held Atletico Madrid to a 1-1 draw.

Jose Gimenez headed Atletico ahead in the 18th minute before the home side levelled seven minutes later when Anton Miranchuk converted from the spot.

Holders Bayern Munich had quite a night as they won 6-2 at Red Bull Salzburg but they left it late.

It was 2-2 before Jermoe Boateng put them in control again in a match where Robert
