PAT’S BETTER!

Paterson strikes late to lift City from slump

-

JA M I E PAT E R S O N returned to haunt his old club as Bristol City scored two late goals to snatch a dramatic victory and end their slump.

Supersub Paterson netted the winner i n the 83rd minute – six minutes after City had levelled – following a run of five winless games.

Robins boss Dean Holden turned his head towards the night sky and roared, “Yes”, at the final whistle as he had been staring at a fourth defeat in six before Paterson and Antoine Semenyo came on to turn the game.

S e meny o c re a t e d the equaliser for Jay Dasilva and hit the post, seconds before Paterson scored.

Huddersfield boss Carlos Corberan will feel his side deserved something more for their efforts.

But City’s greater quality up front was the difference.

The Robins were denied by the woodwork early on when Nahki Wells struck a shot against the face of the bar.

Callum O’dowda then went close, while Zak Vyner should have scored when he headed wide from inside the six-yard box from a corner.

But the Terriers clicked to take the lead two minutes before the interval through the slickest move of the half. Fraizer Campbell swept the ball out to Isaac Mbenza on the right and he played a superb pass to the back post where Josh Koroma fired home into the far top corner.

Holden threw on Paterson, Semenyo a n d Fa m a r a Diedhiou with a quarter of the game remaining and the changes worked as Semenyo created their equaliser on 77 minutes.

He got up after slipping to cross to the back post for Dasilva to tap home his first senior goal.

City sensed a winner and, when Semenyo hit the post, the excellent O’dowda won back possession in the box to feed Dasilva, who in turn set up Paterson to score.
