TOUCH WOOD, THE SKY THE LIMIT FOR US

- BY ELIZABETH BYRNES RICHARD WOOD (ROTHERHAM)

RICHARD WOOD believes the sky’s the limit for Rotherham as they head into the international break on the back of their third win of the season.

The Millers stay 19th but with a five-point gap to the drop zone and captain Wood, who got the opening goal against Preston, thinks the only way is up.

The 35-year-old (above) said: “I thought we should have had more points given how we’ve played, we just need to tweak little things.

“We’ve just got to believe and change our mindset because we are a good team, we have got good players.

“I don’t want to put a ceiling on anything. We can achieve anything in this league. We’ve beaten a very good team so why can’t we carry that on?”

Millers boss Paul Warne made six changes to the team that lost in midweek and Wood said: “It’s relentless with all the games so we do need to freshen it up.”

Ryan Ledson cancelled out Wood’s opener with 10 minutes left, only for Matt Crooks to score the winner six minutes later.

It was Preston’s first away defeat of the season in the Championship and boss Alex Neil didn’t mince his words afterwards as he accused his side of squandering possession and lacking composure.

He said: “Every single game is difficult in this division but for different reasons.

“I don’t care if you’re going to the top of the league or going to the bottom of the league, if you don’t roll your sleeves up and match them for fight, effort and endeavour, you’re going to lose.”
