BAYERN MUNICH beat three Premier League clubs to sign Dayot Upamecano from RB Leipzig.
The France defender will join the German champions on July 1 after they paid a £38million buy-out clause.
Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United were linked with the 22-year-old (right) but he will remain in the Bundesliga, having agreed a deal to 2026.
“We’re convinced Dayot will be a very important member of our team in the coming years,” said sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic.
Leipzig play Liverpool in the Champions League tomorrow.
RONAN KELLEHER hauled Ireland back into yesterday’s clash but admitted: “We shot ourselves in the foot.”
The replacement hooker pounced on the loose ball off his own lineout throw in the
59th minute and, just four minutes after coming on, scored his first Ireland try.
Ross Byrne’s conversion made it
15-13 in France’s favour but neither side scored again in the final 20 minutes. “We’re very disappointed,” said Kelleher (below). “We go out to win every game and it is disappointing how these two unfolded. We were very close. We shot ourselves in the foot once or twice – it’s just not us.
“We need to keep improving, keep getting better and to make sure we win these tight games. We have to be more clinical. That is the general consensus of the group - we know it is in our control.”
Robbie Henshaw agreed that Ireland have to take advantage of dominant play.
“We just need to be honest with each other about what the standard is at at international level,” he said.
“It’s a tough one when you look back at the stats. It shows how dominant we were. We need to be a bit more clinical.”
