Police probe murder bid

- BY MIRROR REPORTERS

AN attempted murder investigation has been launched after a man was found with serious head injuries yesterday.

Police say they found a seriously injured male in his 20s at a property on Fernmore Road in Bangor, Co Down, at 3.50am.

He remains in a critical condition in hospital.

Police are asking anyone who was in the area at the time or may have information that can assist their investigation to contact detectives by calling 101.

THE family of missing Lisa Dorrian have released two doves in memory of her and her mum.

The event marks 16 years since the Bangor woman disappeared.

She was last seen alive at a party in Ballyhalbert Caravan Park on February 27, 2005.

There have been extensive searches of the area.

Lisa’s sister Joanne Dorrian and their father John released the two birds at Castle Park in Bangor, which is home to a memorial bench and tree to Lisa.

Joanne said: “We are releasing two today – one for mum [Pat] and one for Lisa as a sign that we want them to be together.

“The doves are symbolic as they are homing birds, and when we released them they will go straight home to where they came from. The symbolism is what is exactly what we need to happen for Lisa.

“As the birds are released, they find each other and make their way home and that’s what we want for mum and Lisa, to be laid to rest together.”

The family also wrote messages to Lisa, which they tied to a tree in the park.

A DOG walker out with his wife was left with a serious head injury after he was set upon by teenage yobs in a “vicious and unprovoked attack”.

The 49-year-old man was assaulted while out walking in Leeds at around 6.45pm on Saturday.

He remains in hospital in a serious condition.

It is thought 10 male suspects, all aged around 14 years old, were involved.

West Yorkshire Police confirmed the attack took place in Manston Gardens in the Crossgates area.

Acting Detective Inspector Mick Herbert said: “This vicious attack has left the victim with serious injuries.

“I am appealing for anyone who may have seen the assault or the youths to come forward.”

EXPLORER Richard Garriott told the Daily Mirror he is “very excited” about today’s dive to the deepest place on Earth.

He is already on board the mothership, preparing for the 12-hour journey in a British-designed submarine, 36,000ft to the bottom of the Mariana Trench.

He said: “All is great. Excitement is mounting, everything is working well.”

He will be the 14th person to dive the Pacific Ocean trough, but the only one to have flown in space and visited both Poles.

Cambridge-born Garriott, 59, is taking drawings by Mirror readers’ kids on the dive, on which he hopes to find new species.

He added: “I’ve been overwhelmed by the pictures and questions from the young readers.”
