HOME TRUTHS FIRED TOWN’S TUNN AROUND

- BY STEVE JUDGE

RYAN TUNNICLIFFE revealed Luton Town’s players read themselves the riot act at halftime to inspire the best comeback win of his career.

The former Fulham midfielder was one of the louder voices after Josh Windass’s first-half double had seemingly put Sheffield Wednesday in control.

But Kal Naismith swept in Kiernan Dewsbury-hall’s 50th-minute corner before Tunnicliffe converted Elijah Adebayo’s cross for the Hatters.

And Adebayo headed in sub Harry Cornick’s 86th-minute clip to the far post to clinch victory.

Tunnicliffe (above, celebrating) said: “I can’t remember being involved in too many matches where the team has been playing so poorly and 2-0 down at halftime and come back to win – so this is right up there.

“The gaffer left us alone with our thoughts. A few of the boys spoke up and spelled out a few home truths, then the gaffer came in and made a few changes. It was a perfect way to handle the situation.”

Windass ended Wednesday’s run of three games without a goal with his first strikes of 2021.

He turned in Callum Paterson’s low sixth-minute cross before unleashing a thunderous 16-yard drive into the top left corner.

But it could not stop the Owls falling to a fourth straight loss.

Caretaker boss Neil Thompson, whose side are six points from safety, said: “There is no nail in the coffin yet. But we have got to show what we did in the first half and not go into our shells like we did in the second half.”
