MEAT grown in a laboratory and said to have the ‘‘same texture and feel as steak’’ has been created.

Scientists believed it could one day replace animal farming – feared to be damaging the planet.

Cells, known as myoblasts, were collected from real beef and placed in hydrogel modules.

They were then stacked to help mimic the “texture and mouthfeel” of steak.

The study by the University of Tokyo employed techniques developed for regenerative medicine.

Co-author Dr Yuya Morimoto said: “Breaking force measurements showed toughness approached that of natural beef.”

ACTOR Alec Baldwin has become a dad twice in six months, at the age of 62.

His wife, yoga instructor Hilaria, 37, amazed fans by announcing the swift arrival of baby daughter Lucia. Her son Eduardo was born last September.

30 Rock sitcom star Alec and Hilaria are also parents to sons Romeo, two, Leonardo, four, and Rafael, five, as well as daughter Carmen, seven.

Hilaria shared a photo of Lucia in a pink onesie patterned with rabbits and wrote: “We are so in love with our daughter, Lucia. You’re a dream come true.”

It is unclear if the tot is adopted or if the couple used a surrogate. When one follower asked Baldwin on Instagram, he simply replied: “Mind your own business.”
