Mcgregor island ‘sex assault’ charges ko’d
Case against UFC superstar dropped over lack of evidence
CHARGES of a sexual assault bid and indecent exposure against Conor Mcgregor have been dropped due to a lack of evidence.
The Dubliner was arrested after the allegations were made on the French island of Corsica last September.
Bastia prosecutor Arnaud Viornery said: “We had no material evidence to corroborate the complainant’s statements, including after the scientific expert input that had been ordered.”
The accusations against the UFC fighter came when he was in Corsica preparing for a charity 180km water-bike relay race from Calvi to Monaco alongside Princess Charlene of Monaco.
He was forced to withdraw from the event after the prosecutor’s office in Bastia received a complaint “denouncing acts that could be described as attempted sexual assault and sexual exhibition”.
The 32-year-old, whose fiancee Dee Devlin is pregnant with their third child, at the time “vigorously denied any accusation of bad behaviour”.
Last night Mrgregor’s spokeswoman Karen J Kessler said: “The French authorities did a thorough investigation and the DNA evidence confirmed Conor Mcgregor’s account.
“The case is over and Conor is focused on his upcoming fight in July and the birth of his child.”
The Crumlin fighter was also under investigation by gardai following allegations of a sexual assault on a woman in a Dublin hotel in December 2018. In January this year, after prosecutors declined to prosecute Mcgregor, a civil claim for damages was launched in the High Court.
A spokeswoman for the UFC star said in a statement the allegations were “categorically rejected” .
In the octagon, he will face Dustin Poirier for a third time this summer after signing a deal on Wednesday.
