A MAN was arrested in a murder probe yesterday after a body was found in a house.

A councillor told how the community was “shocked and saddened” over the tragedy in the Whitesides Hill area of Portadown, Co Armagh

The suspect was in custody last night. It is the second murder in the town in as many weeks.

A PSNI spokesman said: “Just after 12.07pm, police responding to the report of an incident, located the body of a deceased male at a residential property in the Whitesides Hill area of Portadown.”

Upper Bann DUP MP Carla Lockhart said: “Very alarming news today that someone has lost their life in very tragic circumstances.

“A man has been arrested as part of a murder investigation by the police and I would appeal to anyone with information

PLEA to please come forward to the PSNI.

“Today a family is grieving and they are very much in our thoughts and prayers.

“I would ask everyone to allow time and space for the investigations to be completed and for their family to come to terms with what has happened.”

SDLP Upper Bann MLA Dolores Kelly said it was the latest in a line of violent deaths across Northern Ireland. She added: “There can be no place for violence in our society and incidents like this deprive families of loved ones and leave lives irreparably damaged.

“My thoughts go out to the family and friends of the man who was found dead today and to the community in Whitesides Hill who will be shocked that this has happened within their community.

“I would urge anyone who knows anything about this to come forward and help police with their investigation as soon as possible. I would also ask that police be given space to carry out a full investigation and identify exactly what took place.”

Independent councillor Darryn Causby said the community in the “quiet and rural area” were “shocked and saddened”, adding his thoughts were with the family of the deceased.

He added: “This is the second murder in the town in as many weeks which is deeply concerning. I hope police bring their investigation to a swift conclusion.”

He added the funeral of Jake Baileysloan, who passed away in hospital after allegedly being attacked outside pub last week took place yesterday and urged anyone with information regarding both deaths to contact police.

The police spokesman described the investigation as at an early stage, and have appealed for anyone with information about the incident to speak to detectives on 101 quoting reference 773 of 27/10/21.
