Acid attack doc will need £60k of treatment
Family hope she’ll return to work
A DOCTOR who suffered horrific injuries when her ex hurled acid in her face hopes to return to work.
Dr Rym Alaoui, 25, needs more than £60,000 of surgery after being doused in sulphuric acid by monster Milad Rouf, 25.
He is serving 11 years for attacking her as she answered her front door after their university relationship ended.
The young medic was blinded in her right eye and has already undergone surgery seven times.
Her sister Alya Alaoui said: “Everyone who knows her knows how genuinely kind, loving and caring she is.
“We want to give her every chance to get back to a normal life and continue with her work.
“Rym has severe injuries to her face, neck, chest and arms. She’s still unable to see out of her right eye.
“Her doctors have said that she’ll need many more over the coming years. The cost is estimated to be over £60,000.
“This includes a reconstruction of her neck, specialised laser therapy for scarring and surgical needling.”
Lewes crown court heard last month how Dr Alaoui dated Rouf briefly while they studied medicine together at Cardiff University.
She ended the relationship before graduating and finding work as a junior doctor at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton.
Bitter Rouf hatched a cruel revenge plot, which he carried out in May. He used padding, make-up and a mask to disguise himself as a woman before travelling to her home.
Rouf then knocked on Dr Alaoui’s door and hurled a soup mug filled with acid into her face. Rouf, of Cardiff, pleaded guilty to throwing the acid with the intent to maim and disfigure.
Dr Alaoui’s family hope to raise £60,000 to help pay for the doctor’s future treatment. Alya added: “Her injuries have turned out to be more serious than we expected at the time, and the full treatment unfortunately cannot be offered only by the NHS. “Rym’s modest savings, having been an NHS junior doctor for only 10 months after her graduation, have been depleted.”
