Tierney in top-four Gun blast

KIERAN TIERNEY says Arsenal believe they have the edge in the battle to get into the Champions League.

He claims their last-gasp fightback against Wolves on Thursday night could be “massive” for their hopes to land a top-four place.

It has become a five-way scrap between Arsenal, Manchester United, Tottenham, Wolves and West Ham but Tierney says Mikel Arteta’s men now have the belief they need.

The Gunners defender said: “Results like this build momentum, they build team mentality and that’s what you want.

“Credit to everybody, they worked so hard, from the coaches to the players. They were massive, massive goals. “You just never know what point and what win is going to be important at the end, so you just need to get as many as possible.

“We played them not long ago, so they were obviously wanting to come back and get a bit of revenge.

“But we stood up to the challenge and we got the three points. We have done well the last couple of weeks, and we just need to keep that going.”

It was the first time in 46 matches that Wolves had opened the scoring in a Premier League match and ended up losing.

Tierney says the Arsenal striker has a huge presence in the dressing room.

Tierney added: “Alex deserves that more than anyone. The work he puts in, that people don’t see, people don’t recognise away from the football club, is massive.

“It helps all the young boys, everyone in the team.

“You can trust him. He’s the captain and he’s just an amazing guy as well. I am so, so happy for him.”
