1,000 are killed as quake razes homes
We don’t yet know the full extent of devastation
RESCUERS recover a body after a massive earthquake killed at least 1,000 people and injured 1,500 more in a remote and impoverished part of Afghanistan.
Pictures showed powerful landslides and whole villages collapsed into mounds of earth in the eastern province of
Paktika. Hundreds of houses, many of them built from mud, were destroyed by the magnitude 6.1 event, which occurred at a depth of 32 miles.

Dr Mohamed Ayoya said: “We don’t yet know the full extent of the devastation, but we believe hundreds of people have been killed, including many women and children.
“Many more have been injured and many homes damaged or destroyed. These
