HRT ‘can help to reduce snoring’

- BY MARTIN BAGOT Health Editor

MIDDLE-AGED women can have up to 23% fewer problems with snoring if they are on HRT pills, research suggests.

Those with low levels of sex hormones oestrogen and progesterone after the menopause are more likely to have issues and the prevalence of obstructive sleep apnoea – in which breathing stops and starts – becomes higher.

Study author Dr Kai Triebner, from the University of Bergen, in Norway, said: “The hormone status should be considered, to develop holistic treatment strategies.”
