Buttler is still ready to serve under Morgan

- FROM GIDEON BROOKS

in Amstelveen JOS BUTTLER is not looking to take over from Eoin Morgan as England white-ball skipper after steering them to a 3-0 series win in his absence.

England’s star batsman, and heir to the armband, took over from Morgan yesterday after he suffered a recurrence of a groin injury.

But after an eight-wicket stroll, Buttler insists the dressing room remains fully behind their World Cup-winning skipper and backed Morgan to start racking up runs.

“There’s certainly no questioning of his position from within the camp,” said Buttler (above). “I can’t put into words what he’s achieved.

“Everyone always talks about his captaincy, but you forget what a brilliant batsman he’s been for England in over 200 ODIS. That doesn’t just go away overnight.”

England barely broke sweat by winning with almost 20 overs to spare and with Buttler bringing up the win with his 19th six in just two innings.

In contrast to Morgan, it completed a run of form that Buttler admitted respresented the best form of his life.

He added. “The IPL was incredibly special and when you get to a place like that, you have to be hungry to continue it. When you’re in good form you have to make the most of it.”

Keeping Buttler in this sort of form will be key to England’s World T20 chances and he ducked the question about returning to the red-ball set-up.

“This team is playing brilliantly – I haven’t had any conversations with anyone about the Test side,” he said. “But I’m very happy at where I’m at at the moment.”

Holland had looked on course for a decent total but despite 50s from Max O’dowd and Bas de Leede, they slumped from 203-4 to 244 all out.

England lost two wickets in three balls in the 10th over, but Jason Roy’s unbeaten 101, and Buttler (86no) sealed a quick win.
