Boris’ Red Wall is falling down

-

■ The so-called Red Wall is starting to collapse with Labour retaking Wakefield in last week’s byelection. Meanwhile, Tiverton in Devon was won by the Lib Dems in what was a record by-election defeat for the Tories.

These will be the first of many as Labour and the Lib Dems do a demolition job on team Boris.

Things were a lot different back in 2019 when the Tories were riding on the crest of a wave. Labour had the unelectable Jeremy Corbyn to contend with and prickly issues about exiting the EU.

In fact, the Tories could have fielded Mickey Mouse and got elected. But politics can change quickly and Boris has gone from hero to zero. And the laughable thing is it’s all self-inflicted.

■ Here we are again, another disaster for Boris and the Tories. How much longer do we have to put up with this lying charlatan? The last two by-elections prove he’s becoming unelectable and everyone can see it except him, but he says he is going to carry on.

It’s laughable that Oliver Dowden has resigned because he was one of Johnson’s biggest supporters. Johnson is seen as a laughing stock at the G7 and it’s time the Tories got rid of him.

■ A victory for Simon Lightwood and Labour in the Wakefield by-election is a much needed renaissance for the party and a sure indication that the Red Wall

seats are coming home to where they authentically belong.

Sir Keir Starmer is a serious leader and has the gravitas required for the role of prime minister. Wakefield was a political litmus test and one that Labour passed with flying colours.

■ Yet again we see Bojo blaming everything and everyone else for these by-election results. It’s the cost of living, it’s the price of petrol... does he actually think they are the reasons why people voted Labour and Liberal Democrat, not him? He is so out of touch with any reality – and he’s in charge of this bumbling and inept Government.

R Kimble, Leeds

■ With the loss of both byelections, Boris Johnson claims he will listen to the general public but

will carry on. Does he not understand that if he was listening he would not be in office because the public are telling him that they don’t trust him or believe in him? He needs to go and the sooner the better.

Harold Ennis, Ruardean, Glos

■ Has Boris Johnson got no shame? He will never step down apart from when we have a general election and he realises, by the result, that the country doesn’t want him. I wonder what he would come up with then as his excuse? He’ll probably blame everyone else. The man is a joke and must go.

Mal Arnold, Littlestone, Kent

■ It amazes me when members of the public are asked about how they view Mr Starmer and some say he’s not strong enough to be PM or that he lacks charisma.

What do people want? The man has honesty and integrity by the truck load. Then look at the present incumbent of No 10, who prefers to bully and bluster his way through crisis after crisis.
