Heatwave deaths: A shocking sign of climate change

-

We’d better make preparations now for next summer, as more than 2,800 people aged over 65 died during the three heatwaves from June to August this year.

The Office for National Statistics chief scientific officer, Isabel Oliver, said the figures showed “we must adapt to living safely with hotter summers”.

“Prolonged periods of hot weather are a particular risk for elderly people, those with heart and lung conditions, or people who are unable to keep themselves cool,” she added.
