Buttler said: “I hope it can inspire them.

“I saw Harry Kane sent a message wishing good luck to the team, as well. We’re grateful for that. We’re all immensely proud.

“We’re a fantastic sporting nation. Sport is such a big part of English culture and we know how well supported we are.

“The fans who travelled here to watch us, millions watching back home, and that support is fantastic.”

Buttler was beaming with the trophy by his side – and he was in no doubt just how fortunate he is to have Stokes in his team.

He and Eoin Morgan have become World Cup-winning captains on the back of sensational performances by Stokes.

Stokes scored 52 not out, including the winning run here at the MCG

(celebrating right) after Pakistan were restricted to 138-5.

He now has unbeaten halfcenturies in both

ODI - he finished on

84 - and T20 World

Cup finals.

Buttler said: “He always stands up in the biggest moments.

He’s a man who can take a lot of pressure on his shoulders and perform.

“With him in the middle, you know you’ve got a good chance. I’m so proud of him and pleased for him.

“I’m not surprised.

“He’s a true matchwinner and he’s been there in those scenarios time and time again.

“We’re lucky to have him, he’s one of the great players of English cricket.

“It’s amazing. It’s been a fantastic tournament for us, to now be sat here with the trophy, I’m just immensely proud of everyone involved. We fully deserved it.”

It is the second time

England have been T20 world champions, this victory following their success in

2010.

Stokes played down his heroics and said: “I thought the way we bowled – Adil Rashid, Sam Curran – that’s what won us the game.

“To restrict them to what we did, the bowlers have got to take a lot of credit.

“We have lived up to all the challenges we’ve had thrown at us throughout this tournament.”

Curran was named player of the match and player of the tournament.

The 24-year-old Surrey all-rounder, who took 13 wickets in England’s campaign, said: “I’m a little bit lost for words.

“It has been a great tournament for us, amazing.

“We’re going to enjoy this, my first time in a World Cup and we’ve won.”

Pakistan skipper Babar Azam said: “Congratulations to England. They deserved to be champions, they fought really well.”
