ENGLAND defender Conor Coady read the riot act after Everton slumped to a sixth defeat in eight games to pile the pressure on manager Frank Lampard.

The Blues head into the World Cup break just one point and one place above the drop zone after being totally outplayed on the south coast.

Lampard has collected fewer points from the first 15 games than Rafa Benitez did before he was sacked last season but Coady says the finger of blame should be pointed at Everton players, not the Everton boss.

World Cup-bound centreback Coady said: “It was a totally unacceptable display.

“We are massively short at the moment. We need to look at ourselves in the mirror. It is nothing to do with the manager, it’s down to the players.”

Everton’s dismal display sparked angry scenes at fulltime as midfielder Alex Iwobi had to be pulled away from confronting away fans after having a shirt thrown in his direction.

“Those supporters travel to every single game and it’s not good enough,” Coady said. “It is hard for me to get too excited about the World Cup right now.

“Today will take a lot of getting over because at the end it was horrendous. The only good thing is we have a lot of games left to put things right.”

home supporters with chants of “you’re getting sacked in the morning” while the Everton fans jeered his substitutions.

Jordan Pickford’s error to gift Marcus Tavernier the opener summed up woeful Everton.

Wales striker Kieffer Moore then showed England why they should fear him in Qatar by heading in the second seven minutes later before

Jaidon Anthony (right, centre) completed the rout. Lampard leapt to the defence of England

No.1 Pickford, saying: “Jordan is an amazing goalkeeper and he has made incredible saves for us. I trust him so much and Gareth Southgate trusts him so much. I put no focus on that today.”

Lampard guided his team to Premier League safety last season after replacing former

Liverpool boss Benitez in January but says he knew this campaign would be another slog. The ex-chelsea chief, who lost Brazilian striker Richarlison to Spurs in the summer, window added: “We were down there for a reason last season.

“One transfer window in which we lost a big player is not going to put us in a position where we are fine. The Premier League doesn’t work that way.

“You do not get given anything based on history or size of club. We have to keep working to get results. Everybody put us in a relegation battle. All I read pre-season was that Everton were in this battle. I was favourite to be sacked, five managers have gone.

Everton are 7-4 to go down, with four clubs rated more likely. Forest and Bournemouth are both 8-15, Wolves 21-20, and Southampton 13-8.

Everton, who have shipped seven goals to Bournemouth in the space of four days, play next at home to Wolves on Boxing Day and then travel away to Manchester City on New Year’s Eve.
