We reported how striking firefighters left picket lines to rescue 84 patients from a blaze at St Andrew’s hospital in Bow, East London. Troops were covering but lacked the right gear and training.

The Anglo-irish Agreement was signed by PM Margaret Thatcher and Taoiseach Garret Fitzgerald. It gave the Irish an advisory role in the North’s government.
