Extinct beast skull is found on beach trip

- BY ADAM DUTTON

THE preserved skull of a huge extinct horned beast has been found on a beach.

Musician Dannielle Keys came across the remains of an auroch during a walk.

The creatures, which weighed 236st, were wiped out in the 17th century.

With horns up to 2.6ft long, they roamed across Asia and northern Europe in the Middle Ages.

Dannielle found the 2.5ft long skull on Blyth beach, Northumberland.

Newcastle’s Great North Museum confirmed it was an auroch, an ancestor of domestic cattle.

Dannielle now plans to sell it and has already had several lucrative offers.

The 51-year-old, of Blyth, said: “It is exciting.

“It is not every day you find something as unusual or as old as that.”
