‘Fart-wafting’ officer case is blown out

- BY TOM MCARDLE

A DISCRIMINATION case by a gay Asian policeman whose claims included an officer “farting and waving the odour towards me” has been thrown out.

Mohammed Afzal said he was told he “smelt like garlic” and was “treated lesser” than white officers.

He started work in 2017, was diagnosed with autism in 2018 and resigned in 2020, claiming the Met put him on “restricted duties”.

Mr Afzal alleged unfair dismissal – but employment tribunal rules meant most of his claims were thrown out because he had tried to bring them in 2018 but pulled them in 2019.

Judge Rachel Barker told the South London hearing he gave “no information” on allegations in 2019 and 2020. A further hearing will cover more recent claims.
