Crafty return for favourite old pastimes

- BY STEPHEN WHITE

NOSTALGIC pastimes such as arts and crafts or getting outdoors to go bird watching are back in style.

A poll of 2,000 adults found gardening is the top traditional hobby followed by baking and jigsaws.

Cross-stitch, watercolour painting and flower arranging are also popular.

Some 26% said handson pastimes help to escape the stresses of modern life.

The research was for skincare firm Neutrogena.

It said: “Sewing, painting or bird watching might sound old-fashioned but the relaxing nature of these pursuits isn’t lost on the British public.”

The survey by Onepoll. com also found the average person spends £215.83 a year and seven full days, pursuing their personal interests.
