Church never far away from fresh scandal
This month Fr Sean Sheehy suggested Irish Tanaiste Leo Varadkar would “go to hell” if he didn’t repent his homosexuality.
The Co Kerry cleric added sin was rampant and this could be seen in the “promotion” of abortion, the “lunatic approach” to transgenderism and the promotion of same sex marriage.
In his rant he missed few targets.
Such was the subsequent fallout, his bishop had to apologise the following day.
But Fr Sheehy went on radio station to reiterate his claims and insist he was right and the bishop was wrong.
Just as this controversy was dying down a podcast on RTE revealed one of the Republic’s elite schools, Blackrock College, was the “wild west” of physical and sexual abuse.
It was confirmed The Spiritan Order, formerly known as the Holy Ghost Fathers, has paid out more than €5million to victims, and up to 233 accusations have been made against the Order by 77 people.
It never seems to end, does it?
