Mum ‘killed after axe bet went wrong’
A MAN told police he accidentally killed his partner when throwing an axe at a tree for a bet, a jury heard.
Andrew Burfield, 51, denies murdering Katie Kenyon, 33, before burying her in a makeshift grave.
Yesterday, a jury at Preston crown court heard he sent texts from her phone to her children and himself after her death in the Forest of Bowland beauty spot in Lancashire.
Prosecutor David Mclachlan KC said Burfield, of Burnley, Lancs, told police: “I went for the tree at the side of her and it hit her in the head.”
Burfield told detectives he then dug a hole and buried her, the jury heard.
But the prosecution alleges he had prepared the grave a day earlier.
The trial continues.
