’Tis also the season for homemade Christmas presents, just like this pencil sketch of a very dapper Fred Astaire that Barbara Tingey drew for her daughter.

The 86-year-old, who lives in Enfield, North London, says: “I did this for my daughter Debbie’s birthday this year as she loves dancing, especially tap, and she watches all the Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers films.”

Barbara had to put her art hobby on hold for a good few years, but now that her family have grown and flown the nest, she can draw and paint as much as she likes.

She says: “I always say at the start of a project, ‘I can’t do this,’ but I always get there in the end and love the feeling when it all comes together.”
