Lloris: The football is our focus

HUGO LLORIS has issued a plea to let the players focus on the football at the World Cup – and let the politicians deal with human rights issues in Qatar.

Fifa last week asked all 32 finalists to focus on the football in Qatar, and not on politics.

The spotlight has been on Qatar’s record on LGBT and women’s rights, as well as the treatment of foreign workers who helped build the stadiums.

Lloris (above) plans to wear an anti-discrimination armband in Qatar and the Tottenham goalkeeper said: “There’s too much pressure on the players.

“We are at the bottom of the chain. If you have to apply pressure, it had to be 10 years ago. Now it’s too late. The focus has to be on the field. The rest is for politicians.”
