SNUB MEANS LIONS MAY KOP CARVALHO
LIVERPOOL hotshot Fabio Carvalho has quit Portugal’s Under-21 via text message – sparking hope that he could switch his allegiance back to England.
Carvalho (below), who has impressed at Anfield since his switch from Fulham, represented the Three Lions at youth level, but was called up for Portugal’s U21 European Championship qualifiers this year.
He was born in Portugal, but moved to south London in 2013 and was included in the Selecao’s provisional 55-man World Cup squad this month.
But the Portuguese Football Federation said in a statement: “Fabio Carvalho does not intend to continue representing Portugal at Under-21 level.”
No official reason was given as to why Carvalho had decided to withdraw, but it could open the door for a shock return to the England fold after the World Cup.
